AW so a couple months ago i fell down a rabbit hole of frankenstein “draw my life” type of videos, most of them were really low quality and obviously school assignments from students that did not want to be doing them. that particular drawing was of victor collecting the materials to make creature and it was just funny to me

TWO YEARS??? Victor is the worst parent, oh my god

also, everyone in this story is gay. Special shout out to Elizabeth being more upset about her friend being on trial for murder than she is about her cousin she cared for like a son dying.

of course she’s not more upset about justine’s trial than william’s murder - but william has already been murdered, and justine’s trial is something she can actively participate in and take charge of in the present, hence the focus on it. what she’s saying here is that if justine was executed it would be the last straw on top of recent events, and that an unfair execution (something that had the potential to go the right way but didn’t, the result of several unfair decisions) is a worse fate than a spontaneous murder, not that her death would be somehow more important than william’s.

"Alas! I had turned loose into the world a depraved wretch, whose delight was in carnage and misery." - Victor Frankenstein.

This line right here is where one can say that it's entirely Victor's fault, how can you know if the creature is a "depravad wretch" when you left him without doubt? I know that Victor's mental state was in shambles when he finally created the creature, but it was his responsability to be a parent to the form of life he created.

Victor can't simply accuse him of being neither a depraved evil nor a murderer because he doesn't know, and how could he know if Victor abandoned him at mere minutes of his birth.

Maybe the creature is who murdered William, maybe he didn't do anything at all and simply followed Victor. Who knows, but at the same time, Victor escaped from his responsability as a caretaker, and now those consequences will reach him.

victor didn’t have solid proof that the creature was a “depraved wretch,” yes, and it is fair to some extent to fault him for that sort-of parasocial relationship. however. how can you, in the literal same sentence, acknowledge that victor’s mental state was in shambles, and then turn around and say he should have done a better job at parenting the creature? your interpretation of victor and the creature’s relationship is presumably that of father and child - do you believe, then, that a single parent, after childbirth, without support, during a mental and physical health crisis (literally on the brink of death), should really be the primary caretaker of a child? is that reasonable to you? would that be healthy for EITHER party?
